Indonesians Egg Malaysian Embassy Netizens Clap Back
NEARLY 100 Indonesian demonstrators, including human rights activists and labour unions, threw eggs at the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta to protest the fatal shooting of an Indonesian national by Malaysian maritime authorities on Jan 24.
The protesters demanded the arrest of the officers involved, alleging excessive force. Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry has called for a thorough investigation, while Malaysian authorities stated that the suspects had attacked officers with machetes and rammed their vessel.
The deceased, 50-year-old Basri, was repatriated to Riau province.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim urged Malaysians to stay calm and avoid retaliation after the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta was pelted with eggs over a maritime incident involving Indonesian nationals. He assured a thorough investigation while emphasising Malaysia’s commitment to the rule of law and strong ties with Indonesia.
The incident, which resulted in one death and four injuries, was linked to smuggling syndicates by Malaysian media, while Indonesian reports labelled it as unlawful and inhumane.
However, on X, Malaysians stormed the Kompas.com account to comment on the incident. A majority of locals are now urging the Indonesians to take back their ‘illegals’ estimated at two million in the country.

While the Indonesian demonstrators demand justice, many Malaysians are questioning the double standards at play in the case of illegal Indonesians in Malaysia.
At the core of the issue is the reality that illegal border crossings are a serious offence. Reports indicate that the individuals involved were not innocent fishermen but part of a smuggling network.
When confronted, they allegedly attacked Malaysian maritime officers with machetes and rammed their boat multiple times – an outright act of aggression. Self-defence measures were taken, yet Malaysia is now being painted as the villain.
This pattern is all too familiar. When Indonesian nationals knowingly break the law – whether by entering Malaysia illegally, engaging in crime, or resisting enforcement – many play the victim when faced with consequences.
The same country that failed to curb human trafficking within its own borders is now directing outrage at Malaysia for enforcing its laws. Instead of holding the smugglers and syndicates accountable, the anger is misplaced.
Adding insult to injury, Malaysia has long provided medical care to undocumented Indonesians in government hospitals – without requiring upfront payments, unlike in many other nations. Yet, instead of gratitude, Malaysia receives hostility in return.
Some Malaysians are now calling for tougher action: Deport all undocumented Indonesians, enforce stricter immigration policies, and stop bending over backwards for those who show no appreciation. If the Malaysian embassy is fair game for attacks, should Malaysia not rethink its generosity?
The message is simple: Obey the laws of the land, enter legally and respect national sovereignty. Anything less is hypocrisy.

indon always use “victim card” even if they’re wrong. pergi negara orang dengan cara haram, lepastu bila kedapatan nak bunuh orang tu dengan parang, bila kena tembak mampus, salahkan orang lain pulak. lain kali datang dengan cara baik.
