Take A Break Bersatu Division Urges Muhyiddin
The Dungun division also calls for secretary-general Azmin Ali to be dropped and information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz to be replaced.
Bersatu’s Dungun division chief Abdul Aziz Ismail said the three steps were proposed at a divisional meeting on Oct 20. (Facebook pic)PETALING JAYA: A Terengganu Bersatu division has called on party president Muhyiddin Yassin to go on garden leave and for Azmin Ali to be dropped as the secretary-general, in the wake of the public spats between its leaders
Dungun Bersatu chief Abdul Aziz Ismail attributed issues plaguing the party to several “irrelevant” persons.
“In my view, it is time for Bersatu to make several bold strategic changes for its future,” he said in a statement
Muhyiddin should “go on a break” and allow an acting president to determine the party’s course, while Azmin should be dropped to restore Bersatu’s image and integrity as “issues of morality” were affecting its reputation.
Aziz said the division also wants Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz to be replaced by a more “proactive and capable” successor who could then fortify the machinery at the division level.
“These three steps will help rejuvenate the party in time for the 16th general election,” he said, adding that the division had proposed these steps at a meeting held on Oct 20.
Aziz’s statement comes a day after Wan Saiful Wan Jan, who had been recently sacked by Bersatu, accused several figures close to Muhyiddin of straining ties among the leadership, where he singled out Azmin and Tun Faisal.
Wan Saiful, who is Tasek Gelugor MP, made his remarks hours after Bersatu banned its members from meeting, interacting and attending events by those under disciplinary action by the party.
Prior to Wan Saiful being given the boot, he had referred Azmin and Tun Faisal to the party’s disciplinary board over alleged threats made against division leaders linked to a supposed plot to oust Muhyiddin as president.
He had also launched a scathing attack on Azmin claiming that the latter, a former Selangor menteri besar, was unfit to lead the party.
Last night, Wan Saiful said Bersatu needed to “take back the party” from those who were “not democratically elected”, warning that the growing influence of certain people could alienate other key leaders. - FMT
