Supp Man Blames 2 Mps From Dap Over Delayed New Clinic
Wong Ching Yong says Sibu MP Oscar Ling and Lanang MP Alice Lau 'should and can do more'.
Sibu MP Oscar Ling and Lanang MP Alice Lau, both from DAP, came under criticism from a SUPP branch leader.PETALING JAYA: Two MPs from Sarawak DAP have been accused of not doing enough to bring about a long-delayed relocation and reconstruction of a polyclinic in Sibu
Sibu MP Oscar Ling and Lanang MP Alice Lau were singled out by Wong Ching Yong of the Sarawak United People’s Party, who said they “should and can do more” about the matter as government hospitals and clinics comes under the purview of the federal government.
Wong said it was the duty of parliamentarians to represent the people of Sibu. He questioned if Ling had followed up with the health ministry on the matter after raising it at the Dewan Rakyat debate on the 13th Malaysia Plan.
“Parliament is an important platform for MPs to voice concerns, but it should not be the only channel. Otherwise, it would mean MPs only work during parliamentary sittings, while continuing to draw high salaries all year round,” Dayak Daily quoted him as saying.
Wong, who is chairman of the SUPP Dugong branch, said the stalled Teku clinic project had been approved years ago, and the Sarawak government had already approved the land, yet the federal health ministry had not even initiated the land acquisition process.
He said Ling, as part of the largest party in the government, appeared powerless to move the project forward. - FMT
