Sabah Graft Warisan Leader Lodges Report Over Leaked Confidential Info
A Warisan Youth leader has lodged a police report over a recent speech by Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor, where the latter seemed to possess information on the content of the whistleblower’s statement to MACC regarding alleged corruption in Sabah.
This comes after Hajiji was caught in a TikTok video claiming that he was “informed” the whistleblower “did not admit to doing it” when MACC questioned the businessperson.
“Who leaked the information to the chief minister while the investigation is ongoing?
“If this is true, it clearly shows an abuse of power, especially when the investigation involves his own administration,” said party youth chief Terence Au after lodging a report at the Karamunsing police station earlier today.
Malaysiakini learnt that an Umno member lodged a similar report.
In the TikTok video which went viral, Hajiji stated: “Imagine, he was summoned but did not admit.”
He also accused critics of orchestrating a “well-planned plot” to undermine his administration, claiming the videos were part of a campaign to spread lies and slander.
‘Protected under OSA’
Yesterday, his speech caught the attention of the whistleblower’s counsel Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, who pointed out that his client’s statement to the MACC is protected under the Official Secrets Act (OSA).
“Who informed the chief minister that my client did not admit to giving bribes when questioned by MACC, especially when this information should be considered an official secret?
Muhammad Shafee Abdullah“To clarify, my client neither denied nor admitted anything. He responded in a neutral manner following my advice to avoid self-incrimination,” Shafee told Malaysiakini.
On that note, Au said the situation had caused unease among Sabahans, which prompted him to lodge the police report.
“I urge the police to investigate the matter thoroughly and take strict action to ensure justice is upheld and the integrity of the probe (alleged graft in Sabah) is not compromised,” he added.
Kota Kinabalu district police chief Kasim Muda confirmed receiving the report, adding the case had been referred to the Sandakan district police headquarters for investigations. - Mkini
