PETALING JAYA: A Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) leader has hit out at Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin for criticising Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) deputy chairman Jeffrey Kitingan’s speech during the recent launch of GRS Youth.
At the event last Saturday, Jeffrey reportedly described West Malaysia-based political parties as “colonisers” and “traitors” to the Bornean state.
Bung then criticised Jeffrey and said the latter’s labelling of peninsula-based parties was inflammatory, lacked substance, and ultimately damaged his own credibility.
In a Borneo Post report today, Gagasan Rakyat information chief Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan said Jeffrey’s speech was aimed at inspiring the youth machinery by emphasising the principle of “Rumah Kita, Kita Jaga”.
Nizam said Jeffrey’s speech did not contain any element of incitement. Instead, it was aimed at urging the youth to defend what is rightfully theirs and to be cautious of “traitors” who attempt to seize Sabahans’ rights.
“Why is the Sabah Umno chief so affected by this speech? Does this indirectly imply that Umno is a traitor to the state government?” asked Nizam.
He said Bung, who was once part of the GRS government and won both the Lamag state assembly seat and Kinabatangan parliamentary seat with the support of GRS members, should support the principle of “Rumah Kita, Kita Jaga”.
Nizam said Bung’s criticism of the “Rumah Kita, Kita Jaga” principle only highlighted his and Umno’s anxiety about their waning public support.
He also stressed that Bung must realise that Sabahans were increasingly supporting local parties that understood their needs and aspirations better.
“Bung, as the long-serving Kinabatangan MP, must be aware that the constituency remains underdeveloped and impoverished. This is clear evidence of the failure of the administrative model he represents,” Nizam said.
“This is now the era of GRS, with a clear mission and the fight for the people of Sabah driven by the Sabah Maju Jaya plan.” - FMT
