Lodge Report Over War Will Begin Message Sabah Umno Tells Jeffrey
Summary:
Sabah Deputy Chief Minister I Jeffrey Kitingan is urged to make a police report on videos linking him to a corruption scandal.
He denies plotting against Chief Minister Hajiji Noor, calling the claims false.
He also rejects calls for him to replace Hajiji, labelling such calls as divisive.
Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Sabah Star) president Jeffrey Kitingan, who refused to be dragged into the Sabah corruption scandal, now finds himself at the centre of the storm.
A Sabah Umno Youth leader is urging him to lodge a police report over the Whatsapp screenshot linking him to the videos implicating several assemblypersons.
“It is crucial to determine the authenticity of the information (in the message). If the screenshot is untrue, he (Jeffrey) is urged to lodge a police report,” said Kinabatangan Umno Youth chief Mohd Fazirul Sulaiman in a statement.
He said since the WhatsApp conversation implied that Jeffrey (above) is the alleged mastermind behind the whistleblower who released the videos, the latter must lodge a report to safeguard his reputation.
“Efforts must be made to prevent his image being tarnished by the spread of false information.
“A police report will also enable the authorities to initiate an investigation to identify the parties responsible for spreading the message,” Fazirul added.
Earlier, Jeffrey, who is the deputy chief minister 1, vehemently denied allegations of conspiring against Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor.
Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji NoorThis followed the circulation of a video containing the screenshot suggesting Jeffrey’s prior knowledge of the videos.
“The accusation is categorically false, misleading, and politically motivated. I believe it is aimed at dividing us, GRS (Gabungan Rakyat Sabah), and Sabahans as we approach the state elections,” he said in a statement.
“No such conspiracy exists or has ever existed. Sabah Star and I have fully supported Hajiji as chief minister since 2020, and our support has not wavered despite various challenges,” he added.
Jeffrey claimed the screenshot, allegedly dated Nov 1, 2024, featured a “fragment of a conversation taken out of context to falsely substantiate the accusations”.
In the exchange, he was reportedly informed that the “war would begin very soon.” Jeffrey allegedly replied, “When?” The other party responded, “Next week,” followed by “Good day boss” and “Hajiji would be charged in court.”
The whistleblower has declined to comment on the screenshot.
Shot down takeover suggestion
Previously, the Sabah Star president chided Umno after its youth treasurer Naim Moktar urged Hajiji to step aside as chief minister and allow Jeffrey to lead the interim state government.
Jeffrey said it was inappropriate for Naim to make the suggestion based on unfounded allegations and innuendos.
“No one has been charged or brought to court (over the alleged bribery scandal involving some assemblypersons), unlike some Umno leaders.
“It is certainly not fair to bring my name up and create confusion, division, and speculation among (the ruling coalition) Gabungan Rakyat Sabah members… or perhaps that is the name of the game?” he said. - Mkini
