(Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) will stay out of the state election in Selangor, which means it will not be defending the two seats it currently holds in the assembly.
PBM president Larry Sng said they had reached an understanding with Pakatan Harapan (PH) that his party would stay out of Selangor.
“There is already an understanding on this, we will not contest in Selangor. As for the two seats that PBM officially has in the state assembly, we will work with PKR in these constituencies,” he told FMT.

There had been much speculation on the fate of assemblymen Haniza Talha (Lembah Jaya) and Dr Daroyah Alwi (Sementa), both of whom won on a PKR ticket in the 2018 election, but left the party two years later to support Perikatan Nasional as independent representatives.
Subsequently, they joined PBM in 2021 and remain in the party officially despite their opposition to Sng as the party president. Both supported Zuraida Kamaruddin, who has filed for a judicial review in the High Court against the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to seek a declaration that she is the rightful PBM president.
Sng had said Haniza and Daroyah were not sacked from PBM together with 10 others in December last year for breaching party discipline as the party did not want to encourage party-hopping.
Under Selangor’s anti-hopping law, elected representatives lose their seats if they resign or change parties. However, they would be spared any punishment if they are sacked from a party.
As to whether PBM will contest in the Penang and Negeri Sembilan state elections, Sng said the party had made a decision but would make an announcement closer to the date.
Ads by KioskedPH presently holds 40 of 55 seats in the Selangor assembly through PKR (19), DAP (15) and Amanah (six). The rest of the assembly is made up of representatives from Barisan Nasional (five), PN (five), Pejuang (two), PBM (two) and Warisan (one). - FMT
