Dbkl Puts 3 Officers On Leave Over Balloon Vendor Incident
The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has put three officers on leave after their involvement in an incident on Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman two days ago.
The decision was made after a meeting with Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa, Kuala Lumpur mayor Maimunah Mohd Sharif said today.
The director of the enforcement department also visited the vendor involved, Za’imuddin Azlan, who is currently receiving treatment in an unnamed hospital.
“DBKL will also consider covering his (Za’imuddin) treatment costs throughout the treatment period, subject to further review and current medical needs,” she said in a statement.
In a video call with Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh and an aide to opposition leader Shahidan Kassim, the vendor, known as “Abang Belon” on social media, struggled to hold back his emotions as he recounted the incident.
He said that he had suffered a broken backbone from the scuffle, although another person in the video suggested that he may have a hip fracture instead.

Za’imuddin AzlanDBKL, in an earlier statement, claimed that the altercation began when the unlicensed vendor pushed an enforcement officer and refused to leave despite obstructing traffic.
The city hall asserted that its personnel were merely trying to “calm and separate the vendor from further assaulting the enforcement officer.”
Za’imuddin denied that he had been evicted by DBKL multiple times before.
The incident has sparked widespread criticism of DBKL’s handling of the situation, with voices from both government and opposition parties, along with Perlis mufti Asri Zainul Abidin, calling for accountability. - Mkini
