PETALING JAYA: Bersatu politician Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard, claims he was not allowed to visit Za’imuddin Azlan, the balloon vendor who was injured in an altercation with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) enforcement officers.
In a Facebook post today, he claimed that the staff of Sultan Idris Shah Hospital denied him access, stating it was a directive from the police, despite the victim’s parents inviting him inside.
Badrul said he arrived at the hospital at 11.30am alongside lawyer Rafique Rashid Ali, whom the family had contacted earlier, and was told to wait until 12.30pm, the official visiting hour.
“However, at the same time, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s political secretary Azman Abidin was immediately allowed in (while we waited),” he said.
Later, hospital staff informed Badrul and Rafique that they had orders from the police not to let them visit Za’imuddin.
“The victim’s parents invited us in but the hospital still denied us entry,” he said.
He added that a hospital official was also seen trying to persuade the victim’s mother not to let him and Rafique into the room to meet with Za’imuddin.
Badrul said Bersatu chairman Muhyiddin Yassin had earlier spoken with Za’imuddin’s father on the phone. He added that he also gave a donation to the victim on Muhyiddin’s behalf.
Separately, representatives from federal territories PKR Youth visited Za’imuddin. The group was led by the wing’s vice-chief Fitri Ramli.
In a statement, Fitri said they gave him financial aid to help cover his medical costs and daily expenses. - FMT
