Cops Take Statements From 5 On Scuffle Between Dbkl Officers Balloon Vendor

PETALING JAYA: Police have recorded statements from five individuals in their investigation into the scuffle between Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) enforcement officers and a balloon vendor on Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman on Friday night.
Dang Wangi police chief Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman told FMT no arrests have been made so far.
He said police are completing their investigation based on statements from witnesses and CCTV footage of the incident.
The investigation is under Section 186 of the Penal Code for voluntarily obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their public functions.
Sulizmie also said the balloon vendor’s family has lodged a police report.
Yesterday, a video was shared on social media showing DBKL enforcement officers involved in a scuffle with a balloon vendor, who was eventually pinned to the ground.
Several people were heard shouting to the officers not to harm the man.
DBKL said in a statement later that the balloon vendor had refused to comply with instructions and had acted aggressively.
Sulizmie advised the public not to speculate on the matter and to leave it to the police to carry out their investigation fairly and transparently.
Separately, Kuala Lumpur mayor Maimunah Sharif has suspended the three DBKL officers involved in the incident to allow police to carry out their investigation after discussion with Federal Territories minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa.
“DBKL views this incident seriously and will not compromise on any form of wrongdoing by its personnel if they are found guilty,” said Maimunah.
She said DBKL representatives, executive director (socioeconomic development) Ismadi Sakirin and enforcement department director Muzammer Jamaluddin visited the vendor at the hospital.
“DBKL is considering covering his medical expenses, subject to further review and medical requirements. We urge all parties to refrain from speculation to allow the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation,” she said. - FMT
