Ranjit Singh Malhi: Human Resources Minister Steven Sim must take the bull by its horns.
Suspend Human Resources Development Corporation (HRD Corp) chief executive Shahul Hamid Shaik Dawood due to alleged gross mismanagement and possible abuse of power as disclosed by the Auditor-General’s (AG’s) Department and the Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee.
Shahul must assume full responsibility and accountability, as all major decisions must get his approval. He cannot, and should not, shift the blame to other personnel of HRD Corp.
Shahul Hamid Shaik DawoodThe buck stops with him. Period. If I were him, I would on my accord take garden leave to facilitate impartial investigations because I have nothing to fear if I am innocent of any wrongdoing.
Finally, it is rather odd for Sim to ask Shahrul to accompany the chief secretary of the Human Resources Ministry to lodge a report with the MACC when he is implicated in the alleged mismanagement and financial irregularities.
I trust the minister, who is generally viewed as a credible politician, will do what is right to uphold integrity, good governance, and accountability.
Integrity is the linchpin of leadership. In this regard, Sim’s integrity is being tested in how he handles the HRD Corp controversy.
Rest assured, employers, training providers and the rakyat at large are closely monitoring developments related to HRD Corp. May justice and common sense prevail!

He should suspend Shahul first without talking big about not hesitating to take action.

In light of such blatant facts and accusations, Shahul should have resigned on his own instead of waiting to be suspended.
We have shameless corporate as well as political leaders. We are even merciful to convicted kleptocrats. This is now an acceptable cultural practice.

We are more concerned about expediting the MACC investigation with other enforcement authorities to lock up those who stole money, confiscate passports, and freeze bank accounts.

Who is in charge of follow-up and taking action?
There must be transparency in disclosing the various actions taken against the offenders and the amounts recovered. Otherwise, everything will be swept under the carpet and forgotten.
