Wan Saiful Pm Did Not Fail Ahmad Zahid Did
PETALING JAYA: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia dismissed Umno’s reason for withdrawing its support for Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, saying that it was Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who has failed in his leadership.
In retaliation to the Umno president’s justification for withdrawing his party’s support for the Prime Minister, Bersatu information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan listed Ahmad Zahid’s alleged failure in upholding unity among Malay-Muslim political parties and the people.
“He failed to uphold solidarity between the parties, failed to understand that the people want a caring government that puts their needs first, failed to understand that people are fed up with excessive politicking, failed to take advantage of the many Umno leaders in the government to help the people and failed to put the people’s needs over his personal agenda,” he said in a statement on Thursday (July 8).
Wan Saiful also likened Ahmad Zahid’s accusations to those thrown about by opposition parties, particularly PKR and DAP.
He said the government has spent more than RM500bil so far towards various efforts to help the people and revive the economy.
“There has never been a larger assistance package to assist the people or boost the economy before,” he said.
Wan Saiful said strategies in the National Recovery Plan is a clear guide for the country to fully open up after enduring the Covid-19 pandemic, and the country is also on its way towards raising the daily vaccination rate.
“Vaccination is our main weapon to free us from Covid-19 and by the end of the month, we will be receiving 16 million doses of the vaccine.
“Even our daily vaccination rate has gone over 300,000 doses a day,” he said.
Wan Saiful added that with such efforts in place, it cannot be said that the Muhyiddin-led government has not put the people’s needs first.
Wan Saiful also said Umno withdrawing its support will not affect any of the government’s plans, as in the democratic Westminster system, a Prime Minister who garners the most support from Members of Parliament forms the government.
He also said Bersatu believes it would be best to put a stop to the endless political polemics in days to come and refocus the energy and efforts to overcome the various challenges the country is facing.
The party also reiterated its strong support for Muhyiddin as Prime Minister, as it puts in continued efforts to put the people’s needs first.
“Bersatu strongly stands by its principles to be transparent, corruption-free, having integrity and respecting the rule of law.
“We do not agree with threats or claims to intervene in matters in court for any purpose whatsoever,” he said.
Early Thursday (July 8) morning, Ahmad Zahid announced that the party would withdraw its support for Muhyiddin after a virtual supreme council meeting on Wednesday (July 7) night that stretched to the wee hours of Thursday.
Ahmad Zahid said Muhyiddin had failed to fulfil two requirements the party had set to justify its support for the Prime Minister which were to realise the people’s aspirations and strengthen the country’s economy by coming up with an effective action plan to deal with the pandemic.
Umno rescinded its support hours after Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein’s appointment as a Senior Minister, who will also be leading the security cluster. - Star
