Tun Faisal Routine To Remove Leader From Bersatu Supreme Council
Kepala Batas Bersatu chief Khaliq Mehtab Ishaq was not removed from the supreme council for disagreeing with the party president, said Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz.
According to the Bersatu information chief, Khaliq’s removal was a routine matter in the party.
“Khaliq was neither sacked nor suspended but was replaced with another appointed supreme council member. When it comes to appointed supreme council posts, this is normal. It happens in other parties too.
“No one needs to be a yes man. Supreme council members are the ones who should understand the party’s constitution and its decisions better,” he told Malaysiakini.
For the record, Khaliq was one of the five Bersatu leaders appointed to become party supreme council members in January.
Resignation
Earlier today, Khaliq announced his resignation as Bersatu chair for its legal and constitutional bureau after he was removed as a supreme council member.

Bersatu leader Khaliq MehtabWhile acknowledging differences with Muhyiddin, he nonetheless expressed appreciation to the former premier for the opportunities and trust given.
He also claimed that his removal from the Bersatu supreme council was related to the differences with Muhyiddin.
“I admit that my tenure as Bersatu supreme council member ceased after I did not back the president’s stand on several matters.
“I respect the decision, but as a supreme council member, I believe the right to express differing views is part of the democratic spirit championed by our beloved party,” he added.
Khaliq then expressed hope that in the future, supreme council members will be chosen based on their skills, credibility and their strong principles – instead of only getting yes men.
Asked whether Khaliq was removed due to differences with Muhyiddin, Tun Faisal insisted that the Pagoh MP welcomes differing views, provided it is aired using proper channels.
“All this while, Muhyiddin and Bersatu remain inclusive and open to various views and cooperation from others, as long as they are constitutional, in line with party policies and have gone through proper channels,” he added. - Mkini
