Pkr Suspends Wangsa Maju Chief Over Unaudited Funds Video
PKR has suspended its Wangsa Maju division chief, Lai Chen Heng, for a year following the circulation of a viral video in May showing him discussing political funding for the party.
According to Free Malaysia Today, Federal Territories PKR chief Azman Abidin confirmed that the PKR disciplinary board decided to suspend Lai, which will take effect this Friday.
Wangsa Maju MP Zahir Hassan reportedly said that Lai’s deputy, Azmee Abd Rahim, will be his substitute during the suspension.
In the clip that made waves before the PKR party polls, Lai (above) was shown discussing financial contributions to the division from a prominent businessperson, allegedly describing them as “unaudited funds” linked to a senior political figure.
He claimed the video had been maliciously edited and was an attempt at “character assassination” against him.
In April, Lai denied allegations of manipulation in the division's 2024 financial statements, rejecting the accusations and claiming that it was politically motivated.
Ahead of PKR’s party election, FMT reported that the party’s secretary-general, Fuziah Salleh, said she planned to recommend a temporary suspension of the Wangsa Maju division over procedural non-compliance.

PKR sec-gen Fuziah SallehShe also said the division was instructed to hold a special general meeting on March 1 to resubmit its 2024 financial statements, which had not received prior approval from the secretary-general’s office.
Following further consultations, a meeting was held on March 24 to clarify details in the report.
PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari had also previously called on the authorities to investigate the video.
Fadhli stressed that the issue must be taken seriously as it may involve violations of laws related to illegal political financing. - Mkini
