A tofu processing factory on Jalan Pudu Ulu in Cheras has been ordered to close down for severely violating health and safety regulationsAfter receiving a public tip-off, a team of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) officers raided Chong Bean Brothers to conduct a sanitation inspection on Monday, 15 June and found the premise in a disturbing state
''It was so disgusting and I felt queasy throughout the time I was there,'' said one of the five DBKL officers tasked with the investigation, as quoted by The Star
Upon entering the premise, they saw that the tofu was prepared on the floor and there were remains of it all over the place

"I could not help myself and almost threw up," he said
According to a DBKL Facebook post, they found the floors and walls of the preparation room stained black, the toilet foul-smelling and filthy, and some staff were walking around shirtless
"The operators were also not wearing shoes and headgear while handling the food, and the factory had never scheduled an appointment with a pest control company," continued Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan, as quoted by Berita Harian

The mayor urged all parties involved in food manufacturing to maintain proper hygiene and quality when creating their products
