Pas To Rally In Solidarity With Najib On Jan 6

The gathering for former prime minister Najib Razak is expected to take place at the Palace of Justice, Putrajaya, at 9am on Jan 6.
PETALING JAYA: PAS is expected to hold a rally to show solidarity with former prime minister Najib Razak in Putrajaya on Jan 6, the date of a court hearing on his application regarding a purported royal order placing him under house arrest.
An internal memo sighted by FMT revealed that the rally will focus on Najib’s appeal for leave to commence judicial review proceedings over the purported royal command.
It is understood that the memo was issued to the PAS central leadership, heads of party wings, and state commissioners, calling for participants to attend the rally in a state of ablution.
A leader of a PAS wing, who declined to be identified, confirmed receiving the memo earlier today and said he will be attending the rally.
“So far, we’re unsure of the exact number (of participants), but if the central leadership requests a large turnout, we will respond accordingly,” he told FMT.
The memo, issued by PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, called for party members to gather at the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya at 9am. The gathering is expected to involve prayers and speeches.
“Please ensure the attendance of our members to send a clear signal to the Madani government, led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, about the importance of upholding the rule of law as demanded by the people.
“Your presence, along with that of all members, is greatly anticipated,” the memo read.
Jan 6 is the date for a scheduled hearing by the Court of Appeal on Najib’s application for leave to adduce fresh evidence in his appeal to serve the remainder of his jail term under house arrest.
The former prime minister has claimed that the order on house arrest was issued in a supplementary royal command to the Federal Territories Pardons Board’s decision in February to commute his original sentence.
Najib said the board had omitted to announce the terms of the supplementary order, and that the government was in contempt for not complying with it. He is seeking a court order to compel the government to execute the supplementary decree, if it exists, by placing him under house arrest. - FMT
