Organisers Vow To Go Ahead With Rally Despite No Go By Sabah Cops

PETALING JAYA: The organisers of an anti-corruption rally, scheduled to take place in Sabah tomorrow, have vowed to go ahead with the demonstration despite authorities earlier today prohibiting the gathering.
The Gempur Rasuah Sabah secretariat also said it will lodge a police report against Sabah police commissioner Jauteh Dikun for allegedly confusing the public.
They are also mulling hauling Jauteh to court, the secretariat said in a statement.
Earlier today, Jauteh was reported to have said police decided not to approve the rally on grounds that the authorities wanted to maintain public order as the Sabah government will be organising the Carnival Ria programme at the same venue tomorrow.
He also advised people not to attend the Gempur Rasuah Sabah rally scheduled in front of Menara Kinabalu.
However, the secretariat accused Jauteh of being naive when it came to the Federal Constitution and reminded him that Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain had in March said a permit was not needed for a peaceful rally.
“The statement by the Sabah police commissioner is unconstitutional. We advise him to check the facts before issuing statements.
“The rally will go on as planned,” it said.
It was previously reported that the organisers were expecting up to 10,000 participants from all over the country to voice their protest against a corruption crisis that is alleged to have tarnished the state’s reputation. - FMT
