Nonsense Warisan Chides Macc Chief Over Lack Of Info Excuse
MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki has come under fire from Warisan for saying the agency cannot conduct a thorough probe into the alleged corruption scandal in Sabah due to lack of information.
Warisan deputy president Darell Leiking lambasted Azam on Facebook this evening over what he described as a "nonsense" statement.
Frustrated with "non-action" in the case, the Moyog assemblyperson compared MACC's probe into the scandal with other corruption cases where he said suspects had been placed under remand with lesser evidence.
"So many times we have read and seen where remands for purposes of thorough investigations by MACC have been made before and subsequent charges have even been brought to court even for less information.
"(MACC has remanded suspects) even without any video where actors in the video admitted accepting monies for 'you help me and I help you' conversations.
"One cannot help but speculate and think that non-action like this is for purposes of extending the political life of all those allegedly involved as it is so easy to control those with skeletons in their closet, right? Can one be blamed for assuming this narrative possibility?" Leiking (above) asked.
Earlier today, Azam told an interview with Astro Awani that lack of information has become MACC's biggest challenge in investigating the alleged corruption scandal, which implicates Sabah state leaders.

MACC chief commissioner Azam BakiAccording to the top anti-graft officer, this was due to the whistleblower's unwillingness to share the videos showing his purported conversations with the elected representatives.
"What has been published (in Malaysiakini) is ‘terlalu sedikit’ (too little)," Azam told Astro Awani.
Worsening corruption in Sabah
Leiking further criticised the MACC chief and urged Azam not to contribute to the worsening corruption in Sabah.
"MACC, with your non-action, are you aware that you are encouraging more unknown corrupt acts which are happening in Sabah to continue and to keep rotting Sabah into oblivion?" he asked.
Since November, Malaysiakini has published more than eight videos and a flood of WhatsApp screenshots related to the case.
The whistleblower, a businessperson, claimed that the videos captured discussions about bribes he offered to several assemblypersons in exchange for mineral exploration licences.
During the discussions, the assemblypersons, including those with senior portfolios, also implicated Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor in allegedly distributing licences as "gifts" in exchange for their support during the state’s 2022 political crisis.
Hajiji has dismissed the allegations as an attempt to tarnish his administration, suggesting that the whistleblower is collaborating with parties with vested interests. - Mkini
