Warisan Leader Wants Macc To Probe Arifin Following New Expos
Warisan Youth chief Terence Au has urged the MACC to take immediate action after the whistleblower in the Sabah corruption scandal revealed new allegations against one of the assemblypersons involved.
The businessperson alleged yesterday that Sabah Governor Musa Aman’s son-in-law Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif offered a settlement to silence him.
“The MACC must launch a full investigation, summon Arifin for questioning and uncover any hidden political dealings.
“If proven true, this case is not just about bribery, it is a severe abuse of power that demands legal action,” Au (above) said in a statement today.
The case now also implicates multiple parties, including Umno, Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) and Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star), he added.
Sabah Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Mohd Arifin Mohd ArifFollowing a series of exposés since last year, the whistleblower’s latest claim is that Arifin - who is the state science, technology and innovation minister - had approached him through a third party to offer the reinstatement of his prospecting licences.
This is if the businessperson agreed to issue a public statement declaring that the funds offered earlier were political donations.
The whistleblower shared a purportedly pre-written media statement, which he claimed was prepared for him, stating that he had made similar “contributions” to assemblypersons from Umno, Star and PBS.
The alleged pre-written statement prepared for the whistleblowerThe purported statement also urged him to apologise to the accused assemblypersons, including Arifin, who he claimed had accepted bribes in return for supporting his licence applications.
The statement also called on him to describe what transpired between him and Chief Minister Hajiji Noor as a “misunderstanding”.
Malaysiakini has contacted Chief Minister Hajiji Noor, Arifin, and the other assemblypersons mentioned in the latest claim for comment.
Political interference
ADSAu questioned why Arifin was negotiating on behalf of the government when the reinstatement of mineral exploration licences should be the Sabah Mining Management Board’s decision.
“His involvement suggests potential political interference in administrative decisions,” he added.
Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar RadinIn response to the latest exposé, Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin decried the alleged attempts to drag his party into the corruption scandal.
“Such actions are not only immoral but utterly embarrassing because there are parties that would do anything - including writing a script – just to salvage their position.
“Therefore, I demand an explanation from the individual mentioned in the article (Arifin) regarding the allegation that he was involved in the preparation of a script linking Umno’s assemblypersons to the issue,” he said yesterday. - Mkini
