Anwar Has Become Inspector Saab Pas Info Chief Says
PARLIAMENT | PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari sarcastically compared Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to a Bollywood film character over the government reversing its policies.
In his speech on the motion of thanks over the royal address today, he said Anwar had issued contradictory statements that contradicted the government to appease the people.
“I see that the government today seems to operate solely based on the prime minister.
“The prime minister has become Inspector Saab in the Hindustan stories who solves all matters,” Fadhli said, referring to a stereotype of a police officer in classic Bollywood movies.
Prime Minister Anwar IbrahimHe was speaking on the increase of electricity tariffs, which Tenaga Nasional Bhd announced in December.
But Anwar clarified today that the tariff hike will only apply to industrial users and top earners.
Fadhli also brought up an instance of Anwar seemingly contradicting leaders in his government.
He recalled that Anwar last year warned school bus operators that those raising fares after the diesel subsidy rationalisation may lose their licences.
However, Fadhli added, the Transport Ministry said it does not have power over school bus fares.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke reportedly said last year that the government does not control school bus fares and only encourages discussions between stakeholders.
Commenting on this, Fadhli expressed confusion over whether Anwar or Loke was right.
“So who is right? The prime minister is right? The Transport Ministry is wrong? The Transport Ministry is right and the prime minister is wrong?
“Or are they both wrong? I think they’re both wrong,” he said.
Toll discount for festive season
He further compared this with the recent announcement on tolls for the Chinese New Year festive season.
On Jan 21, Works Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi said the government has decided to end toll-free travel during festive seasons and will instead introduce a “more targeted approach”.
But on Jan 24, Alexander retracted that statement, saying that a 50 percent toll discount would be given to users of Class 1 private vehicles on Jan 27 and 28.
Fadhli said this allowed Anwar to look like a hero who saved the people.
He added that he is uncertain about how the government of the day operates as it tends to reverse its announcements. - Mkini
