Join Opposition Syed Saddiq Told After Lapdog Remark
It is time for Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and his party to make a decision, says Howard Lee of DAP.PETALING JAYA: The youth party Muda and its president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman have been urged to “just leave the government bloc” and join the opposition following a remark by Syed Saddiq that DAP has become a lapdog.
Howard Lee, a member of the DAP central executive committee, said the time had come for both Syed Saddiq and Muda to make such a decision.
“I am certain that by Muda withdrawing its support for the unity government, we would become more focussed.
“Developing the country would be made easier if we do not need to entertain the childish antics of a few individuals and parties,” said Lee in a statement.
Yesterday, Syed Saddiq, who is MP for Muar, agreed with former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin that DAP had become a “lapdog” who allowed abuse of power to take place.
He also labelled DAP a hypocritical party that was power hungry and without principles.
Syed Saddiq had said this after DAP vice-chairman Nga Kor Ming had urged him to meet unity government leaders to voice Muda’s dissatisfaction with deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi being granted a conditional discharge on corruption charges.
Lee said there was no need for Syed Saddiq to be rude and act childishly to gain attention and be popular.
Turning the tables around on Syed Saddiq, he asked if Muda would similarly be considered a lapdog if Syed Saddiq was granted a discharge in his case involving charges of criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of assets and money laundering.
“Would his party also be considered to be hypocritical, power hungry and without principles?” said Lee.
Syed Saddiq holds Muda’s sole seat in the Dewan Rakyat. The party supports the unity coalition government formed by Pakatan Harapan, Barisan Nasional and East Malaysian parties but is not a member of the coalition, which commands 147 seats.
The opposition comprises Perikatan Nasional, made up of Bersatu and PAS, and commands 74 seats. - FMT
