I Resigned To Avoid Crisis In Pas Says Khairuddin
Khairuddin Aman Razali said he accepts all decisions made by PAS’ central committee, but they must be done in accordance with party rules.PETALING JAYA: Khairuddin Aman Razali said his resignation as the secretary of the PAS Syura Council was aimed at preventing a crisis and maintaining harmony within the party.
The Kuala Nerus MP said he had to step down as the PAS central committee’s decision to sack him from the council was illegal and against the party’s constitution, Berita Harian reported.
A council member cannot be sacked by anyone and must either resign or be ineligible to continue in office, he said.
“I discussed this with PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin and a meeting was called for by the Syura Council. I attended in my capacity as the council’s secretary.
“At the meeting, I officially resigned to maintain party harmony and to fulfil the wishes of the PAS central committee,” he was quoted as saying by the Malay daily.
He also congratulated agriculture and food industries deputy minister Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh for being named his successor.
On the alleged disciplinary issues which led to him being given the boot, Khairuddin said it was a matter for PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang to answer.
He said that as a PAS member, he accepted all party decisions, but stressed that they must be made in accordance with the rules.
Khairuddin added that rumours that he pushed for the party to continue working with Umno through Muafakat Nasional were untrue and did not lead to his earlier removal from the PAS central committee.
The former plantation industries and commodities minister was sacked as secretary of the PAS Syura Council on Feb 11. A month earlier he was expelled from the party’s central committee. - FMT
