Has Hq Endorsed Defiant Akmal S Special Convention To Determine Umno S Future In Madani Gov T

RIGHTIST UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has seemingly disregarded the latest sisterly advice by UMNO women’s wing EXCO member Datuk Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid not to act hastily based on emotion in the pretext of “courage” and “transparency”.
This is given that the self-proclaimed defender of race and religion will forge ahead with the UMNO’s Direction in the Unity Government special convention which he mooted in the spirit of “UMNO belongs to its members” this Saturday (Jan 3) at the Dewan Tun Dr Ismail in World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) at 2.30pm.
“God willing, we will meet on 3/1/2026 . No fear, no surrender,” the Merlimau state assemblyman recently penned in a Facebook post.
This is in reiterating his invitation “to those who still love UMNO and brave enough to pour their hearts out” to attend Saturday’s (Jan 3) special convention.
“This party belongs to all of us! We don’t just talk but we carry out what we say. Whether we stay or leave, we ourselves decide!”

In fact, Akmal’s latest FB post which bears his ‘rebellious’ motto – “No fear, no surrender” – could be prompted by a slew of social media posts by Nurulhidayah who might be attempting to persuade the Melaka state Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security Committee chairman to ditch his proposed special convention.
Below is one her FB rant in the quest to presumably school her ‘younger sibling’:
“My concern is not about Datuk Akmal personally. It is about the political atmosphere that is too passionate about cheering (a leader) to the point that we forget to ask what the effect is – once the noises have died down – on the party, the country and on the rakyat.
A Malay proverb reminds us of menang sorak kampung tergadai (literally winning the cheer but losing the village). It’s not a cynical proverb but an old-fashioned reminder of the dangers of emotions overriding wisdom.”
When the reality sinks in
Whether UMNO’s top echelon has endorsed the event is as good as anyone’s guess although Nurulhidayah – probably speaking on her father and party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s behalf – did acknowledge that choosing a special Youth convention as a debate platform is better than “treating the streets as a debate stage”.

At a glance, there is nothing detrimental about the event except concern that the Merlimau state assemblyman is seemingly adamant to revive the UMNO-PAS Muafakat Nasional tie-up which was abandoned when the current UMNO leadership chose to be part of the unity government.
Recall that such “rock the boat” move stemmed from animosity with DAP over a remark by the party’s national publicity secretary Yeo Bee Yin who likened disgraced former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s failed house arrest bid to “a cause for celebrating the forthcoming New Year”.

While his popularity as a no holds barred next-gen UMNO leader has skyrocketed multi-folds at grassroots level, Akmal’s action threatens to derail UMNO’s stature as the Pakatan Harapan (PH) key ally in the Madani government.
Knowingly or unknowingly, his party’s reigning president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid might secretly be wanting Bossku to remain out of sight (what more with the latest 15-year jail sentence after being found guilty in the 1MDB scandal) for his own political survival.
Beyond that, he is emboldened to his mentor and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim not for his deputy premiership per se but for his DNAA (discharge not amounting to acquittal) from 47 prima facie charges encompassing criminal breach of trust (CBT), graft and money laundering. – Focus Malaysia
