Group Condemns Release Of Sharks Under Madani Govt

The Malaysian People’s Advocacy Coalition (Haram) has condemned what it claims to be the release of major “sharks” from corruption cases under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s administration. 
Haram’s secretary-general, Adam Nor, referred to court decisions involving Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Rosmah Mansor, which he described as contrary to previous reform slogans.
He also highlighted the appointment of former Sabah chief minister Musa Aman as the state’s new governor last week.
Newly appointed Sabah governor Musa Aman“The oft-chanted reform slogans have become mere political propaganda without concrete action. The promises of reform have turned into a joke as the people are neglected while well-dressed thieves are allowed to go free.
“What is happening today is deeply contradictory, such as Zahid’s release, the controversy surrounding Najib Abdul Razak’s pardon, and Musa’s appointment as the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah,” he said during a press conference in Petaling Jaya today.
Unsuccessful prosecutions
Zahid was granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) from 47 charges of corruption, criminal breach of trust, and money laundering involving funds from Yayasan Akalbudi in September, following a request made by deputy public prosecutor Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar.
As for Najib’s wife Rosmah, she was on Dec 19 acquitted of 12 charges of money laundering involving over RM7 million and five charges of failing to declare her income to the Inland Revenue Board after she filed a motion to have the charges against her dropped.
However, a day later, the prosecution filed an appeal against the decision.
Rosmah MansorMusa, meanwhile, was acquitted of 46 charges of corruption and money laundering in June 2020 during former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s administration.
“We also question the judgment of Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor and the prime minister when advising the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Musa’s appointment,” Adam added.
Anwar previously said he had advised the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, on several other names to be considered for the position of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah.
Anwar had repeatedly stated that he does not interfere in court cases, including Rosmah’s acquittal.
Adam further announced that Haram has established the “Cleanse Malaysia Secretariat” to push for stricter action to ensure the government fulfils its promised reform agenda.
Meanwhile, Haram’s coordinator for the Sabah student movement, Hamdin Nordin, expressed full support for student-led initiatives to combat corruption in Sabah.
Student organisations and NGOs in Sabah are set to hold a rally on Dec 31 to highlight ongoing corruption scandals in the state.
“We fully support the Sabah student movement’s efforts to rally against corruption in Sabah.
“Anwar promised to implement reforms and to fight corruption, but many are being freed during the era of the Madani government,” he alleged. - Mkini
