Explain Why 15 Top Govt Members Have Not Declared Assets Kit Siang Tells Pm
Lim Kit Siang has criticised the prime minister for not taking the lead against corruption ‘when even the King had urged all to do so’.PETALING JAYA: DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang has demanded answers to why 15 people holding ministerial or deputy ministerial positions in the government have yet to publicly declare their assets.
Lim said nine months had passed since they took up their positions.
He said they included six individuals with ministerial rank such as special envoys to regions, advisers, and the chairman of the National Recovery Council, Muhyiddin Yassin.
Besides the six, two ministers and seven deputy ministers have yet to declare their assets to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, he claimed.
“What is worse, Ismail’s Cabinet is not setting an example of accountability, transparency and public integrity,” he said in a statement.
The special adviser to the prime minister for law and human rights is Pengerang MP Azalina Othman, and the four special regional envoys are Hadi Awang (Middle East), Tiong King Sing (China), Richard Riot (East Asia) and SA Vigneswaran (South Asia).
Lim questioned why Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob had yet to take the lead against corruption when even the King had urged all to do so.
He said Ismail appeared to show no concern over the country’s standing in Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index, and predicted that the ranking would likely be worse next year.
“I have suggested that Parliament should initiate a new anti-corruption campaign in the next Parliamentary meeting beginning on July 18. Does Ismail agree with the proposal?” he asked. - FMT
