Nurulhidayah Doing A Disservice To Women Empowerment Kit Siang
Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid, the daughter of Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, has done a disservice to women empowerment, said Gelang Patah MP Lim Kit Siang.
This was after Nurulhidayah claimed that women were “not born to be leaders”.
Lim said under the Pakatan Harapan government, the country saw a woman deputy prime minister in the form of Pandan MP Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
“Nurulhidaya had done a great disservice to women empowerment when she said that women are not born to be leaders.
“We already have had a woman deputy prime minister, and it should not be too tall an order to have a woman prime minister in Malaysia.
“Malaysians should be looking for the next glass ceiling to be broken by having a woman prime minister,” he said in a statement.
Nurulhidayah Ahmad ZahidLim listed a slew of countries with a woman president or prime minister, including Indonesia, Philippines, South Korea, India, Taiwan, Thailand, Australia, Norway, Canada, Sweden, Finland and Denmark.
“Nurulhidayah wants to put the clock back, but she should be reminded of the quote by Israel’s ‘Iron Lady’ woman prime minister Golda Meir, who said, ‘Whether women are better than men I cannot say – but I can say they are certainly no worse.’
“Nurulhidaya should remember that we are in a new era of women empowerment with the Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat and the Court of Appeal president Rohana Yusuf, both women, and seven women judges in the Federal Court of twelve,” he said. - Mkini
