(Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: An enhanced movement control order (EMCO) has been declared at seven areas in Sabah and at Politeknik Sultan Azlan Shah in Mualim, Perak, from June 9 to 22 after recording spikes in Covid-19 cases.
Senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the Sabah localities are in Tawau, Lahad Datu and Kudat.
The Tawau areas are Kampung Tanjung Batu Darat (10 positive cases), Taman Apas Permai (18), Bandar Sri Indah (36), Taman Megah Jaya (14) and Jalan Budi, Sri Tanjung (10).
In Lahad Datu, eight people in Taman Perdana tested positive after tests were conducted on 66 people, while 16 people in Kampung Narandang, Kudat tested positive from 36 tests.
In Perak, an EMCO will be enforced at Politeknik Sultan Azlan Shah in Mualim, after 37 of 173 tests returned positive, for a positivity rate of 21.4%.
Ismail also announced that EMCOs in several areas across the country will come to an end tomorrow.
Three villages in Lipis, Pahang will end tomorrow as scheduled. During the period of the EMCO, the health ministry conducted 2,191 tests, 96 of which returned positive.
Elsewhere in Pahang, Bandar Triang in Bera will have its EMCO lifted earlier than scheduled tomorrow, after it was supposed to end on June 11.
In Sabah, EMCOs in Taman Seri Ketiau and Taman Desa Seri Ketiau in Putatan will also come to an end tomorrow.
Also in Sabah, EMCOs in Kampung Sungai Imam in Tawau will end tomorrow, with the last people to test positive from screening activities there doing so on June 3.
Ismail said 1,214 people were arrested yesterday for breaching SOPs. Of those, 1,107 people were remanded and a further 107 were issued compounds.
Among the offences were not maintaining physical distancing (267), not wearing face mask (224), and failure to record their personal details or to check in with the MySejahtera app (158).
In addition, 11 illegal immigrants were detained and five vehicles were seized as part of the ongoing Op Benteng campaign yesterday.
There were also 703 overseas arrivals, who were placed into quarantine in various stations across the country.
A total of 220,554 people have returned to the country since July last year, of whom 9,163 individuals were quarantined, 2,431 taken to hospital while the remaining 208,960 people were allowed to return home. - FMT
