Sabah Politician To Face Molest Charge Tomorrow Report
Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku Rakyat Sabah (Star) member Philip Among will face charges tomorrow over allegations of sexual misconduct against a beauty pageant participant, according to a report.
The Malay Mail quoted Sabah police commissioner Hazani Ghazali saying that Philip (above) will face charges under Section 354 of the Penal code for using criminal force to outrage modesty.
“Yes, tomorrow the deputy public prosecutor will charge Philip,” he was quoted telling the English-language news portal.
Hazani also reportedly said “We do not rule out more than one charge could be filed against him for various other offences,” but declined to elaborate on the additional charges.
If convicted under Section 354, Philip is liable to a jail term of up to 10 years, or a fine, or whipping, or a combination of any two of these punishments.
According to the report, the police interviewed 12 people including other contestants of the Unduk Ngadau (Harvest Queen) pageant.
Unduk Ngadau is a cultural pageant held in conjunction with the Kaamatan harvest festival.
Previously, it was reported that a participant at the pageant accused Philip of inviting her to his car for dinner after a photoshoot on May 19, where Philip supposedly groped her despite her repeated attempts to stop him.
He supposedly took her to his office where he continued to harass her.
The police arrested Philip last week while the party suspended his post as a parliamentary constituency coordinator.
According to Star secretary-general Guan Dee Koh Hoi, Philip informed the party he was also being investigated for allegedly assaulting a Kadazandusun Cultural Association Sabah security guard. - Mkini
