Dap Should Reform Itself By Leaving Harapan
YOURSAY | 'Pull out of the coalition or openly tell Anwar off.'
Sabah wipeout: DAP vows to accelerate reform, regain public confidence
Cogito Ergo Sum: The writing is on the wall and on the ballots, not on the feedback you keep ignoring. DAP was shown the door in Sabah, but that is merely a microcosm of the bigger picture.
The party is heading toward a total wipeout at both federal and state levels in the 16th general election. Having tasted power and now inebriated by it, DAP, in its stupor, has forgotten its fundamental ideal of giving everyone a fair go.
Instead of being the check-and-balance within Pakatan Harapan, you have become the chief enablers of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s outdated and myopic vision, which he has branded as “Madani.”
The only way to salvage the party you once were is to pull out of the coalition or openly tell him off. The cure may be painful, but it may yet save the patient.
You made a catastrophic mistake by being overly obsequious. We are not saying you never question the prime minister. We are saying that when Anwar instructs you to jump, your only question is, “How high?”
That is what you have become in the eyes of the people. You will lose your 42 seats in Parliament. He has ensured your political death.
You have maintained an embarrassing silence even when insulted by your own coalition partners. That insult extends to all your supporters. They do not need to be humiliated yet again by another ruling coalition.
Your loss of dignity in the Sabah polls is a damning indictment of what you have become. Many of your so-called friends will applaud your total wipeout at the next GE. Start applying for new jobs today.
Make the Change in GE16: Many PKR MPs, including Anwar, won their seats with the backing of DAP voters.
DAP should stop trying to scare supporters by claiming that leaving Anwar’s government would pave the way for PAS to join. If that happens, so be it. Sometimes things must get worse before they get better.
Walking out now would also give Anwar and his allies the next two years to face the consequences on their own. Whoever DAP and its secretary-general Anthony Loke have hired as political consultants should seriously rethink their strategy.
Meanwhile, if the MCA truly wants to regain its political pride and genuinely aims to rebuild the nation, it should assemble a strong team, include several non-Chinese as friendly independents in key seats, and contest all DAP seats under its own banner without aligning with anyone in GE16.
As for Anwar, if he cares at all about saving face and preserving PKR’s credibility, he should replace the MACC chief commissioner with Rafizi Ramli.
Caught and Bowled: “After thorough reflection, we will compile all feedback received and work closely with the prime minister to accelerate the reform agenda over the next six months.”
ADSLoke, what have you been smoking? What reform agenda are you referring to?
Why is it so difficult for you to accept that your unconditional support for a fake reformist, Anwar, your shameless compromise on your own integrity and principles, and the arrogance of some of your colleagues will be the Achilles’ heel that brings about the inevitable demise of DAP?
It appears too much to expect honest reflection on the Sabah results. Perhaps the perks and privileges that come with power are simply too tempting to resist.
The rakyat will send you and your party into political wilderness at GE16 just as they did to Gerakan and MCA in 2008.
GreenRusa4781: The statement “we will work closely with the prime minister to accelerate reforms” is yet another example of a leader who remains deaf, dumb, and blind.
How can Harapan accelerate reforms when they have been repeatedly hiding behind the excuse of “collective cabinet decisions”?
It is obvious Harapan leaders believe they can hoodwink their supporters because, in Peninsular Malaysia, non-Malays supposedly have no alternative but Harapan.
However, Harapan leaders must realise that more and more supporters are openly choosing to stay home during GE16 and enjoy their tea instead of voting.
The reason is simple: non-Malays are no better off than before, while their leaders are enjoying a better life as part of the Madani government. This will end at GE16. If DAP remains in Harapan, they are likely to win only 20 seats at best.
Just A Malaysian: Loke, you have given Anwar more than enough time to mess up. I know you are a consensus leader, a team player, loyal to the coalition, but it is time for you to step up.
Anwar is all over the place, clinging to power, while reforms are nothing more than advertisements. Minorities, the judiciary, the Constitution, are all being hammered.
It is time for DAP to play its rightful role. - Mkini
