Citing Ura And Trump S Visit Hamzah Calls Pm To Resign
Opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin has called on Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to resign over the twin concerns of the Urban Renewal Act (URA) and US President Donald Trump’s upcoming trip to Kuala Lumpur.
Speaking at an opposition-led rally in Kuala Lumpur today, Hamzah joined thousands of supporters who protested against alleged land-related rights violations in Malaysia, as well as US-backed atrocities committed by Israel’s Zionist regime in Gaza.
Citing the URA, the Perikatan Nasional deputy chairperson said, “Anwar, don’t fight just for the interests of developers.”
He also urged Anwar to withdraw the invitation for Trump to attend the upcoming Asean summit.
Hamzah emphasised that the opposition’s resistance to the urban renewal bill was not racially motivated, but rather grounded in the need for fairness to all communities.
“Our struggle is not just for one race, but for all the people, for justice,” he said.

Opposition-led rally in Kuala Lumpur todayHamzah also claimed that government lawmakers, including those from Umno and PKR, had expressed support for rejecting the URA.
“We, the opposition MPs, have rejected this from the very beginning. Not only the opposition, even some Umno MPs stood with us. There are also PKR members who joined in,” he said.
According to him, Anwar had previously assured in Parliament that the URA could be amended.
“Anwar, you yourself admitted to me in Parliament - there is a record in the Hansard - that you promised this URA could be changed,” he said.
‘Reject Trump!’
The Larut MP also drew attention to the government’s stance on Palestine, criticising Anwar for plans to welcome Trump to Malaysia.

“Today, we know the biggest actor in the so-called fight for Palestine is Trump. We do not want Trump here. Reject Trump!” he said, as the crowd echoed his call.
Hamzah concluded by reminding Anwar of his past reformist struggle.
“Anwar, remember that you once fought for justice. Now it is nothing but theatrics. Step down, Anwar. Enough is enough,” he said.
Anwar and others in government have since defended the invitation to Trump, stressing it was issued in Malaysia’s capacity as Asean chair, for engagements at a regional level.
The rally today saw a turnout of around 5,000 protesters. Around 1,000 showed up at the Sogo shopping complex initially, but numbers swelled to 3,000 when those marching from Masjid Jamek arrived at about 2.20pm.
The number grew to 5,000 with protesters spilling across the streets surrounding the mall.
The protest ended at around 4.15pm after a closing prayer by Jasin MP Zulkifli Ismail.
Road closures to facilitate march
Shortly afterwards, Dang Wangi district police chief Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman thanked the organisers for cooperating with the police.

During a press conference outside Sogo, he also apologised to those affected by road closures, explaining that these were done in stages to allow those marching to Sogo to walk safely.
He said 400 police officers had been deployed to oversee those marching to Sogo for the rally.
No unwanted incidents had occurred throughout the rally, he said, adding that the police had recorded the speeches made at the event.
“We will review (the recordings) if there are any wrongdoings or if they touch on 3R (race, religion, and royalty) issues and so on.
“(If so) then we will open an investigation paper,” he said.
He further estimated a crowd of 1,600 to 1,800 protesters. - Mkini
