Almost 500 Moved To Relief Centres After Kl Selangor Floods

Federal Territories minister Shahidan Kassim said 251 flood victims had been placed at Dewan Sultan Sulaiman in Kampung Baru and SKT Saraswati in Jalan Klang Lama.
“Twenty-three areas in Kuala Lumpur were flooded due to heavy rain since 3pm but the floodwaters are receding. Kuala Lumpur City Hall has mobilised pumps to the inundated areas and the floodwaters started to recede an hour ago,” he told reporters.
A Kampung Baru resident, Nor Faridah Abdul Rashid, 63, said the floodwaters started to rise after 30 minutes of heavy rain.
“Mine is a traditional house with the front portion about four feet above ground, but the floodwaters entered the kitchen which is at ground level,” she said.
Another evacuee, Roslan Shamsuddin, 39, said he could not save anything from his house because he was at work.
“When I reached home after work, I found my house flooded up to waist level. My belongings like the television, beds and mattresses were all damaged,” he said.
In Selangor, almost 300 people from 56 families had to be evacuated this evening.
Menteri besar Amirudin Shari said eight relief centres were set up at Dewan Camelia Seksyen 10 Putra Height, SK Puchong Indah, Dewan Batu 3, Dewan Kampung Seri Aman, Dewan Puchong Jaya, Dewan MPS Kampung Melayu Sri Kundang, Dewan PJS 2C/6 and Dewan PJS 1/35.
“The Skuad Pantas from the Subang Jaya City Council has been mobilised to Kampung Tengah, Kampung Baru Seri Kembangan, Taman Kinrara 1, Taman Kinrara 4 and Puncak Jalil 8 in Seri Kembangan for assistance,” he said.
Selangor fire and rescue department director Norazam Khamis said floodwaters were slowly receding in several affected areas.
He said among the areas hit were Kampung Gombak, Kampung Melayu Kundang and Kampung Melayu Sungai Serai in Batu Arang, Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh, Kampung Melayu, Sungai Buloh and Kampung Gombak Kuang, Rawang.
Klang district was also not spared, with Persiaran Hamzah Alang, Kapar town, Jalan Teratai, Taman Meru Daya, Jalan Sesenduk Meru, Jalan Cempaka and Jalan Paip hit by flash floods, he added.
Hundreds also evacuated in Perak
Hundreds of flood victims in Perak were also evacuated to relief centres today.
Teluk Intan fire and rescue chief Mohd Ismail Mohd Yunus said 18 victims from four families in Hilir Perak had to be evacuated after their homes in Jalan Changkat Jong were flooded in the afternoon.
“Water rose since yesterday because of continuous rain but the water level was not high until this afternoon when it rained heavily this morning,” he said.
He said firemen were still actively monitoring the flooded areas.
In Muallim district, a total of 168 from 26 families were evacuated after flash floods hit Kampung Berop, Behrang this afternoon.
The Muallim district disaster management secretariat spokesman said the water level at Sungai Kampung Berop was reported to be rising. - FMT
