Perak BN chairman Saarani Mohamad says the MIC state chapter has never been sidelined and its leaders have been appointed as local council members.
Perak BN chairman Saarani Mohamad said he maintains good relations with state MIC chairman M Ramasamy and other leaders from the party.PETALING JAYA: There are no issues or tensions between Perak Barisan Nasional (BN) and the state MIC that would warrant the party leaving the ruling coalition, says menteri besar Saarani Mohamad
Saarani, who is also Perak BN chairman, said he maintains good relations with state MIC chairman M Ramasamy and other leaders from the party.
He said Perak BN has never sidelined the state MIC, even though the party has no representatives in the state assembly, Berita Harian reported.
“MIC representatives have been given important roles in state government-linked companies as well as positions as local council members,” he told reporters after attending the Perak Sejahtera 2030 Community Padi Sports Carnival held in Teluk Intan.
“They are always in contact with me and, as I’ve mentioned before, even without a state assemblyman from MIC, the party still has a representative on the Perak Water Board,” he said.
Saarani said 14 MIC leaders have been appointed as local council members.
“That’s proof that Perak MIC is not being sidelined. If they were to join the opposition, they wouldn’t get anything,” he said.
He was commenting on MIC’s position in Perak BN following the move by the party’s chapter in Kedah to pass a motion to work with Perikatan Nasional.
In Penang, news reports said the MIC state chapter had also passed a resolution to leave BN. - FMT
