Not A Secret Affair Mic Confirms Informal Talks With Pn
MIC president SA Vigneswaran has confirmed informal discussions with Perikatan Nasional on the BN component party’s future direction.
Vigneswaran said the party leadership is seriously reviewing its trajectory following motions proposed by grassroots members, including those in Kedah and Penang, calling for the party to join PN.
“MIC has nothing to hide (about discussions with PN), this is not a secret affair. MIC’s leadership will decide our own direction, but we hold no grudges against anyone,” he was quoted as saying by Harian Metro.
Speaking at a press conference after officiating the 79th Johor MIC delegates convention in Kota Tinggi today, Vigneswaran stressed that the party is still carefully studying its direction before it makes a final decision.
He emphasised that any decision taken will be for the good of the Indian community in the country and for the party’s future, noting that the evolving dynamics and political landscape of the nation require the party to carefully chart its course to avoid becoming irrelevant.

“Everyone must understand - the country’s political dynamics have changed. If MIC refuses to accept this reality, we will disappear.
“MIC accepts that we are called weak, but it is strange that many still want to talk about this party - that is what we don’t understand,” he added.
Buyer’s remorse
Earlier this month, Kedah MIC passed a resolution to cooperate with opposition coalition PN without ruling out the possibility of leaving BN.
Kedah MIC chairperson SK Suresh was quoted as saying that the people in the state, especially the Indian community, have begun to grow weary of the current federal government, with some now regretting their vote for Pakatan Harapan.

Earlier, Vigneswaran told a Perak MIC assembly that the party is ready to negotiate with any party for MIC’s future and the well-being of the Indian community.
His remark came after MIC deputy president M Saravanan claimed that the party was being sidelined by the federal coalition government, sparking a war of words with fellow government parties Umno and DAP.
Previously, PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin reportedly did not rule out the possibility of PAS and PN accepting MCA and MIC, claiming that PAS and PN have been invited to discuss the matter with both BN component parties. - Mkini
