All Is Not Well With Indians And Other Malaysians Dap Mp Tells Pm

A DAP lawmaker has warned Putrajaya not to mistake the low turnout of Indian Malaysians at Saturday's "Turun Anwar" rally as them being satisfied with the government.
V Ganabatirau explained that many Indians did not show up at the opposition rally because the community was already "politically fatigued", having been worn down by promises, marginalisation and systemic neglect.
"Their absence from the streets should not be mistaken for satisfaction.
"It is a quiet protest, one that may become louder at the ballot box if not addressed sincerely and swiftly," the Klang MP said in a statement today.
ADSGanabatirau further expressed his disappointment with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and the government, whom he claimed had not given a favourable response to concerns raised by Indian representatives.
This was despite them having persistently raised the issues affecting the community through letters, public statements, engaging in side meetings and speaking in Parliament.
PM Anwar Ibrahim"We have tried through all means to bring this dissatisfaction sincerely to your attention, prime minister. But due to the lack of a favourable response, the perception among the people is that we have not done anything.
"This is damaging our credibility and reputation on the ground, even though we have done our part with full sincerity.
"We must not brush this off or allow ourselves to be lulled by the convenient narrative that all is well with Indians. It is not. And this applies across the board, including Malays, Chinese, Indians, Orang Asli, Sabahans, Sarawakians, where many feel a deep sense of economic, social and political unease," he added.
The Selangor DAP deputy chairperson urged the government and MPs to hold a special discussion to address the people's rising concerns and commit to structural solutions.
Poor representation
Meanwhile, MIC deputy president M Saravanan reportedly said that the government is losing support from Indians because the Indian ministers in the cabinet don’t truly represent the community.
MIC deputy president M SaravananThis is because they belong to multiracial parties and thus, they could not focus on the plight of Indians, he elaborated.
"This is why today's government is losing support of the Indians, because the community does not have any sense of belonging with the government.
"It is like they do not have any representative (in the government). They have Indian ministers, but there is a huge difference between a minister who is of Indian ethnicity and a minister who represents the community," he told Utusan in an interview. - Mkini
