(Bernama pic)KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested seven men, aged between 15 and 50, in connection with the commotion that occurred during the eviction of 37 terraced houses at Kampung Sungai Baru here on Thursday
Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus said those arrested were not residents of Kampung Sungai Baru, but were believed to be leaders and members of an organisation.
He said six of them are being held under remand until tomorrow, while another, aged 26, has been charged in court.
“He pleaded guilty and has been released after paying a fine of RM1,500. Police will apply for an extension of the remand for the others to continue the investigation.
“Some of those arrested have criminal records for housebreaking and other cases,” he told a press conference last night.
Fadil said three investigation papers have been opened under sections 186, 353 and 324 of the Penal Code.
The sections criminalise the acts of voluntarily obstructing a public servant, assaulting or using criminal force against a public servant while they are on duty, and voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon or means, respectively.
He said police were tracking down several more suspects in connection with the case.
“We also ask for public cooperation, especially those with videos related to the incident, to share them with the police to assist in the investigation,” he said.
Fadil also said Dang Wangi police chief Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman, who suffered a head injury in the incident, was reported to be fine after receiving outpatient treatment. - FMT
