Zahid Wants Passport Back For Medical Treatment In Germany

Ahmad Zahid Hamidi wants his passport back so that he can travel to Munich, Germany, for medical treatment. (Bernama pic)KUALA LUMPUR: Former deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has filed an application to have his passport temporarily released from the court.
His lawyer, Hamidi Mohd Noh, told High Court judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah that Zahid wanted his passport back to seek medical treatment in Munich, Germany.
“He has been suffering from neck and back pain. His pain intervention treatment is not sufficient enough to reduce the pain,” Hamidi said.

He said Zahid needed his passport from Oct 26 to Nov 21.
Zahid was ordered to surrender his passport as part of his bail condition after he was first charged in court on Oct 19, 2018.
Deputy public prosecutor Gan Peng Kun did not object to the request but pointed out a technical issue in his certificate of urgency attached to the application.
“The certificate was signed by the law firm. It should be signed by the solicitor in charge,” he said.
Sequerah told the defence to make the necessary changes before the court could grant the order to release the passport.
Hamidi also told the judge the defence had filed a similar application before the Shah Alam High Court.
Zahid is charged with 47 counts of money laundering and criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving millions of ringgit from Yayasan Akalbudi and accepting bribes from Ultra Kirana Sdn Bhd for various projects during his tenure as home minister in connection with the foreign visa system.
Twelve of the charges are for CBT, eight for corruption and the remaining 27 for money laundering.
The hearing for submissions at the end of the prosecution’s case continues before Sequerah on Oct 11. - FMT
