Albert Wants Footage Released After Cops Say No Evidence Of Gun Pointing

Businessperson Albert Tei has reiterated his call for authorities to release CCTV recordings of MACC’s raid on his home in Puchong, Selangor, last month.
The whistleblower’s demand comes after Selangor police chief Shazeli Kahar said police have not found evidence that MACC officers pointed a gun at Tei and his wife, Lee Pei Rie, during the raid.
Claiming that Shazeli’s remarks yesterday were “inconsistent with facts,” Tei said the most crucial evidence in this case is the CCTV recording that was seized by MACC officers during their operation at his residence on Nov 28.
“I have provided the investigating officer with the username and password to review the CCTV recording.
ADS“I wish to ask the police: who has viewed the CCTV footage? Is the footage sufficient to prove my allegations (on MACC officers pointing guns)?” Tei questioned in a statement today.
Saying he is puzzled at how police are claiming a lack of evidence, Tei urged the police to immediately release the CCTV footage to the public so that justice may be upheld for him and his family.
MACC raid on Albert’s home, Nov 28“Today at 4pm, the investigating officer will return to my home to meet my family members who were present during the raid to ascertain certain matters.
“This is the third time the police have come to my home to conduct investigations. I hope the police can resolve this case promptly and bring before the courts those responsible,” he added.
Tei noted that previously, within a week of the raid, the investigating officer had dropped by the scene on two occasions to take photographs, record his statement, and shoot a video reenactment of the raid.
He further insisted that he had provided clear and detailed statements to the police regarding how several MACC officers in balaclavas supposedly pointed firearms at him and his wife.
Investigation and analysis
Yesterday, in stating that police have yet to find any evidence that MACC personnel had pointed guns at Tei and his wife, Shazeli cited police preliminary findings after investigators recorded statements from all MACC officers involved in the operation.
He said police had also obtained CCTV footage from the residence involved, as well as recordings of telephone conversations, which have been submitted to the forensics unit for further examination and analysis.
According to Bernama, it was previously reported that the MACC officers who conducted the raid at Tei’s residence were equipped with body-worn cameras and other recording devices.
Lee previously raised concerns over the manner of the operation, claiming the raiding party barged into their home through the main door before several of them put handcuffs on Tei.
She had also lodged a police report claiming MACC officers pointed a gun at both of them during the raid.
Lawyers Rajesh Nagarajan and Sachpreetraj Singh, acting as counsel for Lee, had then demanded that MACC release the CCTV recordings confiscated by its officers during the raid, without altering their content.
MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki has since denied that his officers had pointed a gun at Tei and his wife. - Mkini
