Claims Of Malacca Govt S Collapse Zahid Calls For Snap Polls

PARLIAMENT | Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (BN-Bagan Datuk) said Malacca should undergo state elections again to return the mandate to the people.
This comes after four Malacca state assemblypersons announced they were withdrawing their support for Chief Minister Sulaiman Md Ali, who is from Umno.
“I do not mind losing a state government that was led by my party, but let’s wait first.
“I think it is better to have new state elections so that the Malacca State Assembly will be dissolved and we can return the mandate to the rakyat for the rakyat to choose which is the best government to govern the state,” Zahid said while debating the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Zahid also said he hoped what had just happened in Malacca would not spread among the MPs in the Dewan Rakyat.
“It has already spread,” quipped Mahfuz Omar (Harapan-Pokok Sena) in response.
Earlier today, Umno’s Sungai Udang assemblyperson Idris Haron claimed in a press conference that the current state government had collapsed after he and three others announced they were withdrawing their support for Sulaiman.
Idris, who is a former Malacca chief minister, was accompanied at the press conference by Nor Azman Hassan (Pantai Kundur), Norhizam Hassan Baktee (Pengkalan Batu) and Noor Effandi Ahmad (Telok Mas).
“We have already sent a letter to the chief minister on this decision to withdraw support,” Idris had said.
He also said he and Nor Azman, who are both from Umno, were ready for any disciplinary action from their party.
Following this announcement, the four assemblypersons, along with all 11 Pakatan Harapan assemblypersons in Malacca, will seek a meeting with Malacca Governor Ali Rustam, state Harapan chief Adly Zahari said.
"The meeting is to discuss efforts that can be taken to ensure political stability in the state and the continuity of the state administration," said Adly, who was Sulaiman’s predecessor. - Mkini
