Yoursay Umno A Spent Force Despite Recent Electoral Wins
YOURSAY | ‘How can they ever be entrusted to govern the nation?’
Tajuddin: Umno undeserving of apology, be grateful for lifeline
Headhunter: Everything academic Tajuddin Mohd Rasdi said described what Umno is.
The party members are all delusional, living in the past and unwilling to see the world has changed around them for the better.
Malays, especially the well-educated ones, are starting to see Umno for what it is, the party that exploited them to line their pockets.
There is no better example than former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak and his family.
Had corruption money and opportunities been spread wisely, Malay lives today would be uplifted to be on par with everyone else, and there would be no need for crutches.
Every single Malaysian, irrespective of race, would have been positively affected.
Malaysia would have been a much better place, too. And they still think they are king of the jungle?
MarioT: Umno, once a hegemony of Malay political power, is now seen as a spent force.
Its chances of gaining its past ignominious glory and reclaiming the federal government are just a piped dream.
Its only hope of playing a role in the government is to be part of the ruling coalition.
The arrogance and “ketuanan” mentality of this party remain high even though its role in the coalition is small.
DAP and PKR hold the majority of seats but are made to look as though they have to kowtow to Umno.
For more than half a century of its unassailable cycle, it has given them the impression that they are still in command even after losing power and control.
If Umno still wants to remain relevant and contribute to the progress of the nation, it must first, appreciate and respect the other bigger coalition partners and not provoke, demand or insult them.
ADSMaking provocative statements and not respecting the other elected representatives of the people will work towards their further downfall.
The simple analogy we all peace-loving people practise is to give respect to gain respect.
Gerard Lourdesamy: Well said, Tajuddin. Without an electoral pact with Pakatan Harapan, Umno would be dead as a doorknob at the 16th general election.
It’s a fact. In a three-way fight in the Malay-majority seats, Umno will lose to Perikatan Nasional (PN).
If Umno goes with PN, it will be forced to play third fiddle to PAS and Bersatu because they won more Malay majority seats in the 15th general election compared to Umno.
Umno can kiss goodbye to the prime minister and deputy prime minister positions because those roles will rightly belong to PAS and Bersatu.
Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh and Umno supreme council member Nur Jazlan Mohamed are the epitome of stupidity in Umno.
The top party leadership is aware of the risks.
Mark my words; neither one will get a seat to contest in the next general election if Umno decides to go with Harapan.
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is tolerating them at present to avoid fissures within Umno and to undermine the government.
But if the DAP is pushed to the wall, thereby causing a collapse of the multi-coalition government, and there is a risk of Harapan and BN going their separate ways before the next general election, Zahid will move to kick them out of the party.
Amadeus: The audacity of asking for apologies when everyone knows that BN is the culprit of the dire economic situation Rakyat faces daily. Didn’t the 1MDB fiasco take place under BN’s watch?
If the US Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Singapore government didn't repatriate some of the stolen funds, we would be in an even worse situation.
What about the scandals involving The Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT) and Tabung Haji?
For over 60 years, politicians from BN were busy feathering their coffers at the expense of the people.
After winning some state seats at recent by-elections, they seem to have forgotten how badly they did at the last general election.
Hrrmph: Nur Jazlan’s arrogance beggars belief. Perhaps it is to be expected of someone from Umno, which produced such “luminaries” as Najib and Akmal.
The party members continue to work towards a full pardon for Najib despite him being convicted of crimes against the nation.
They make it their mission to bully and make fools of us. When will they learn their lesson?
A decade after the exposure of 1MDB, Umno still clings to the story that Najib did no wrong.
How can they ever be entrusted to govern the nation again?
They could have spent the last 10 years improving but chose to continue with their bullying and whining ways.
RedMarlin1833: Umno will and can never change! One segment of the society that used to be its main pillar of support is now moving towards the opposition.
Unfortunately, the grand old party still does not realise this. Without the support of all Malaysians, Umno is not going to win extra seats in the next general election to be the main player in the country.
Hoyohoyo: Umno is history, just like the Congress Party of India. They will never change because they don’t know how to reform.
The reality is that the Malay voters are deeply divided between Bersatu, PKR, Umno, and PAS.
With the strength of East Malaysia, secularism remains a reality. Harapan will continue to dominate in the next general election.
Malaysians will not vote for extremists or religious bigots in Putrajaya. Non-Malays are still safe for the next five years. - Mkini
