Yoursay Don T Stop Media From Reporting On Corruption
YOURSAY | ‘What law is the media breaking?’
MCMC asked social media platforms to remove Sabah graft content: Fahmi
Police asked MCMC to issue takedown order to Mkini, not me - Fahmi
Turnedback: Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, do you know what freedom of the press is?
Malaysia is a democratic country and not a communist nation that blocks the media.
Let the media run its course, and if any of it is not true, by all means, sue the media for compensation.
If you block the videos, people will become more suspicious about the cause and speculation will lead to fake news floating everywhere that can hurt the right judgment.
Dr Suresh Kumar: This is another own goal scored by the Madani regime. This may sound the death knell.
There were many corruption cases reported by online media even while investigations by the police and MACC were ongoing. For example, former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak's mega-theft case.
Why didn't the police direct the media to remove the contents then? Haven't we seen such chicanery under the Umno regime for decades?
We are on the way to becoming another North Korea. It's not only the political trickery that these unethical and distasteful politicians employ that annoys me, but the way they try to make people dumb by insulting our intelligence irritates me more.
Freedom of the press, my foot.
YellowLeopard3694: Sad, isn't it? One can never expect honour and gratitude from political parties.
Malaysiakini was mainly instrumental in advancing the PKR and making it a major part of the ruling party. Now they want (though they deny it) to take down Malaysiakini because the ruling coalition cannot cover up the misdeed quickly enough.
Enough! I ask all voters not to vote for PKR in the 16th general election. Just continue to support whatever party you have supported in the past. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and PKR have done enough damage.
Anwar is not what he seems to be, perhaps he was never what he portrayed himself to be.
Cogito Ergo Sum: Why do the police have to ask the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to ask Malaysiakini to take the videos down?
Do you mean the police or MACC cannot ask Malaysiakini to take down the poor-quality clips? Fumbling Fahmi, we don’t believe you.
If you had said that the video clips were embarrassing the administration, there would be some sympathy.
Now, you appear to be a go-between, passing the buck to others.
A Little Bit Crazy: Fahmi, these excuses are illogical.
Just imagine, to investigate the brutality of Israeli soldiers killing ordinary Palestinian people, the United Nations orders the Palestinians and all world press agencies to take down their online videos and photos of those bombed buildings, bleeding, suffering, and dying images of Palestinians so that it would not affect the United Nations' ongoing investigations?
Hello, police and Fahmi, are you guys serious?
Commenting has been disabled for this story: Why didn't you ask the media to stop reporting on former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s son-in-law?
Why didn't you ask the media to stop reporting on Vivy Yusof’s business FashionValet?
But now you are in power, you say the media cannot report corruption. What law is the media breaking?
Is saying "it will compromise the investigation" enough? Compromise how? Can reporting corruption harm investigations?
Then so many media in so many countries have been harming investigations for years.
Traveloka Winning: This is why the government wanted to introduce licences for social media and traditional media so badly.
This is so that if the platforms aren't willing to comply, they can start blocking the whole platform left and right.
Will this government also start blocking content from PAS? How is this government going to be different from North Korea?
IndigoCat9464: Stop shutting the means for people to voice their opinions. Their hard-earned tax money is being siphoned. We will expose whoever steals it.
Why protect those who steal? What kind of reformasi is this?
Mat M Din: The exposure of new videos regarding the corruption scandals is an attempt to confuse the issue.
MACC should detain those suspected of being incriminated with giving and accepting bribery and subject them to a thorough investigation.
Those suspected of committing the crime should be brought swiftly to court.
Do not allow the corruptors to produce new videos to cloud the matter and cause more confusion.
Ranjit Singh Malhi: Just let the police do their job. Similarly, leave Malaysiakini alone to report the truth.
Crooks are always scared of the truth. - Mkini
