Rare Footage Of Fish Rescuing Friend From Snake Catches Netizens Attention
LIFE in this cruel world would be a much better place if we all had friends who watch our back, or tail.
Being human with our superior intelligence, our species can boast of our ability to build quality relationships and lasting bonds compared to the lesser life forms. But is this always the case?
Perhaps we still have much to learn about friendship from others, and shockingly from a pair of fishes instead. How’s that for being the smartest species on the planet?
In a viral video post on X by netizen Figen, a fish could be seen leaping out from the water to snack on a snake.
It would seem that the fish had bitten off more than it could chew for it dangled in the air, unable to bring this larger-than-normal morsel into submission.
Then enter Fish Buddy who gave a helping hand, or mouth, by biting on its friend’s tail and pulling it back into the safe confines of the water.
Many netizens were touched by the heroic bravery of Fish Buddy, with the viral video now garnering about 10,000 reposts.
Then there was netizen Brad N who was sceptical on how the video could be derived in the first place.
But hold up. Several netizens were quick to point out that Fish Buddy wasn’t exactly helping its friend in the first place.
Fun fact: The saratoga is a freshwater fish native to Australia that is known for its aggressive feeding behavior and powerful jumps.
According to Native Fish Australia, the carnivorous saratoga mainly take food from the water surface.
The bulk of their diet comprises terrestrial insects, although saratoga will take small fish, frogs, shrimps and yabbies.
Observing its feisty behaviour, it comes as no surprise that the saratoga is not a suitable pet in an aquarium.
The fish is a natural jumper, and any aquarium must have a suitably heavy lid, else the fish is likely to jump out of the tank. This can be a particular problem when performing maintenance.
On a lighter note, the snake in the video was likely unimpressed.
Just like the snake, we are unimpressed too once the true situation has been revealed. —Focus Malaysia
