Would You Patiently Wait Or Rampage Through Like The Lorry Driver In Ayer Keroh R R Incident

THE lorry driver involved in damaging three haphazardly parked vehicles at the Ayer Keroh R&R recently has spoken up.
Identified only as Wan, he claimed that both himself and other motorists had waited up to an hour for the errant parkers to move their vehicles. However, the queue behind his heavy trailer was getting longer.
Explaining the scenario, Wan said in an Instagram video shared by Utusan Melayu Plus: “Before going live (on social media), we waited. If it’s just for a moment, it’s fine but it’s over an hour.

“People are making noise and telling us to move; everyone is angry, vehicles were already queuing up at the back. There were buses, old people and children.”
It is also understood that the lorry driver will face legal action for his decisive driving manoeuvres.
Meanwhile, none of the owners of the damaged vehicles have spoken up or made their identities known. Is this because they know they will be on the receiving end of much pubic opprobrium for their lack of parking etiquette?
This opprobrium was very much in evidence on several social media sites that shared Wan’s “confessions”.

On online Malay language news portal Kisah Dunia’s Facebook site, there were many who voiced their disapproval that the lorry driver was the one in the dock instead of the inconsiderate parkers.

It was also pointed out that other motorists had tried to move the vehicles before decisive action was taken with the lorry driving through. “The evidence was clear enough here,” exclaimed one irate commenter.

However, there were those who counselled patience. Regardless of the inconvenience, one should never take the law into their own hands. “Call the cops and wait,” was the advice proffered by one commenter,

There were similar sentiments expressed on MelakaExplorer’s Facebook site that also shared Wan’s explanation. One commenter went on to suggest that aside from the coppers, there were other helplines to try instead of ramming through the vehicles which has now landed Wan in hot soup.


However, many commenters could not hide their displeasure at the irresponsible parkers that caused the massive crawl that spilled onto the highway.
One commenter nevertheless sarcastically proclaimed that the lorry driver should have just ignored all the noises and patiently waited to ensure no damage came to the car that was haphazardly parked.

Another demanded to know the identities of the errant parkers while one questioned the wisdom of the police in doling out fines to Wan instead of those so obviously lacking in civic mindedness.

“Time to put the money where your mouth is” – that was the pertinent point made by one commenter.
Reminding many netizens that they were quick to applaud the lorry driver’s actions when the video first surfaced, it is time to show solidarity with Wan by chipping in to pay off whatever summons that may land on his lap.
