Why No Further Action Against Zamri Activist Asks

Activist Arun Dorasamy today questioned why no further action was taken against controversial preacher Zamri Vinoth.
He said that this was despite nearly a thousand police reports lodged against the preacher.
"He (Zamri) has also reposted his post (on social media). He seems to challenge the entire system and no action has been taken against him.
"Why is there no gag order?" Arun (above) told Malaysiakini.
He said this after giving his statement at the Bukit Aman federal police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur this evening.
On March 9, Zamri republished his Facebook post comparing kavadi bearers during Thaipusam to individuals who are possessed or intoxicated.
Preacher Zamri VinothThe post also referenced the death of firefighter Adib Kassim during a riot outside a Hindu temple in Selangor in 2018.
Zamri had previously posted it on March 5, but Meta had removed it upon MCMC's request.
Police and MCMC are investigating Zamri, who has also accepted a debate challenge from MIC deputy president M Saravanan. However, the debate has since been called off.
Ready to cooperate
Arun further expressed his readiness to cooperate with the police since a report had been filed against him.
He said he was only exercising his constitutional right to speak on the failure of law enforcement.
“If the police and agencies fail to act, we will use our right to take to the streets. This is a last resort, and nothing will stop us.
“That is my right as enshrined in the Constitution and in accordance with the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012. It is not sedition,” he said.
His party has also sent a letter to the palace to request an appearance before the Yang di-Pertuan Agong over the issue, Arun said.
Besides that, he said he would file a civil suit against Zamri for issuing a statement that allegedly mocked the Hindu kavadi ritual.
Yesterday, the police opened an investigation paper against Arun, who allegedly issued a seditious statement through a video he recently uploaded to his Instagram page.
Inspector-General of Police Razarudin HusainInspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said the police received a report over a video on WhatsApp depicting Arun's statement, which allegedly contained seditious content touching on issues of religion, race and royalty (3R).
He said the video also involved the security forces and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Following this, the police opened an investigation paper under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act, Section 505(c) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
In a nine-minute video on Instagram, Arun allegedly called Zamri an apostate Hindu, in addition to questioning whether the police were waiting for racial riots before acting on the preacher.
On March 12, Razarudin said the police had recorded Zamri's statement, but no further information was given. - Mkini
