No Further Action From Mcmc On Era Fm Djs Says Fahmi
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the MCMC has no plan to take any further action against the three Era FM presenters who mocked a Hindu religious ceremony, saying “they have gone through enough”.
This followed the agency’s decision to issue an RM250,000 compound against Maestra Broadcasting Sdn Bhd, which is the radio station operator that holds its broadcasting licence.
However, according to Fahmi, the celebrities might still face action from other agencies, including the police and their employer, Astro.

“I have informed them (the DJs) that we do not intend to take any further action against them. They have gone through enough,” he said during a doorstop interview after a buka puasa event in Angkasapuri, Kuala Lumpur.
“All settled on the MCMC side. But I do not know about the police because it’s not under my purview. But as far as MCMC is concerned, it’s done,” Fahmi added later when asked for clarification.
Earlier today, MCMC announced its decision to fine the licence holder over a viral video where several Era FM radio presenters were seen dancing to a “vel vel” chant by several other staff members before he burst into laughter.
Big company v individuals
During the interview, Fahmi also responded to criticism from netizens who compared the hefty fine with the punishment meted out in the cases of comedian Harith Iskander and convenience store chain KK Mart.
Harith was recently fined RM10,000 by MCMC over a Facebook posting that insulted Islam, while KK Mart was fined RM60,000 by the Shah Alam Sessions Court last year over the socks bearing the word Allah.
Fahmi said MCMC decided on the RM250,000 against Maestra Broadcasting because it is a company that makes high revenue annually, while Harith is an individual.

“The amount was different from what is set against an individual.
“There were also those who drew a comparison between this case and the RM60,000 fine imposed against KK Mart.
“The (KK Mart) case was under the Penal Code. It was different. And the case did not involve online content or MCMC licence holders,” he said.
On a similar issue, Fahmi said he had also spoken to the three radio presenters, who also attended the buka puasa event.
The minister said he had advised the deejays to learn the lesson from this incident and to be patient in facing the huge backlash, which he said has put a lot of pressure on them. - Mkini
