Where Are You Going To Put Your Face Now Puad Asks Muhyiddin
Puad Zarkashi said accepting the deal offered by the PM was tantamount to Umno and the opposition parties saving a government that had failed.PETALING JAYA: With an outright rejection of his olive branch to the opposition within 24 hours, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin should be ashamed of himself and immediately step down, said Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi.
“Where does Muhyiddin want to put his face now? It’s not even 24 hours and his new deal has been flatly rejected by all parties, including Umno,” he said on Facebook.
“Muhyiddin must give in. All avenues are now closed for him. He has simply failed.”
He said the rejection meant that the Bersatu president can no longer be trusted as he had made his offer at a time when he had lost majority support.
“Accepting the deal is tantamount to Umno and the opposition parties saving a government that has failed, violating the Federal Constitution and disobeying the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s decree.”
Puad said so far only one MP from DAP had agreed that the opposition must discuss the offer by Muhyiddin.
“Only (Damansara MP) Tony Pua seems agreeable to the offer. He is afraid Umno will come back to power.
“When Pakatan Harapan (PH) was in power, he was accused of using the LHDN (Inland Revenue Board) to frame many Umno leaders. He is afraid of his own shadow now. Now, he thinks he will be safe under the Perikatan Nasional,” Puad said.
After Muhyiddin reached out to the opposition with his seven proposals yesterday, Pua had asked all opposition MPs to consider the offer if PH could not get the majority support for its leader, Anwar Ibrahim.
Pua went on to say that it was reasonable for opposition leaders to consider attending the meeting suggested by Muhyiddin.
“My view is that if we can’t gather the support for the opposition leader, we have to consider the offer made by Muhyiddin,” he said.
In a televised press conference yesterday, Muhyiddin had offered various incentives, including holding a general election the latest by July next year, equal allocation for all MPs as well as several other reforms.
Muhyiddin made the offer in order to gain support from all the parties and subsequently win the motion of confidence for him in Parliament next month. - FMT
