When Begging Turns Into Bullying What Should We Do

WHAT is the difference between begging and bullying? They sound about the same.
Interestingly, beggars who usually appeal to people’s sympathies can at times resort to violence when their needs aren’t met.
A group of teenagers found out the hard way with an elderly lady when she arrived at their table to beg.
When her pleas were met with deaf ears, she decided to pummel one of the teenagers with her fists, as can be observed in the video.

The majority of the online community opined that the boy should have defended himself. Others heaped condemnation over the lady, with some pointing out that she may be an illegal alien.
“People such as these need to be apprehended by the immigration, Ministry of Home Affairs and the Malaysian National Security Council. Then release them into the South China sea,” said @sixty90.
Netizen @Disasterlevel added that people should send the video to United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the Malaysia International Humanitarian Organisation.
“Then call everyday to ask their opinion and what they are going to do about it,” he said.

Also, @Y0ur_Mom warned that the lady is likely the member of a syndicate, that she is not poor.
Echoing his thoughts were @PawPawB_E_A_R who said if that was a local beggar, they could have given the person a ringgit or two.
“For the foreigners, just give them a fist or two until he feels like returning to his own country,” said @PawPawB_E_A_R.
The video has since prompted @Asraflah to share a similar incident in front of Sogo. Apparently he gave a beggar RM1 but nowadays, even the beggar has a higher standard. Instead of gratitude, he claimed that he received a pinch for his kindness.

Netizen @CaptainHudson7, however, appealed to people’s higher conscience. “What she did, was it right? No, confirmed. But in truth, her presence is alone a test from Allah to us. Our next action determines the result of the test,” he warned.
Then there was @ShamTakumi with his simple reply, “Hit her back. Why are you keeping quiet?”

To this, several netizens pointed out the rationality behind the lack of violent response.
According to @Awos84 it would be shameful for him to retaliate. “Even the way she hits is not similar to the strength of us young men. He still retains his sympathy for the older people,” he said. — Focus Malaysia
