We Ll Get Supreme Council To Act If Parliament Doesn T Sit Says Umno Youth
PETALING JAYA: Umno Youth has said it will urge the party’s Supreme Council to take strict action if the government fails to convene Parliament soon.
Its chief, Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, said this was in line with Umno’s stance in defending the interests of the Malay Rulers, as laid out in the party’s constitution.
In a statement, Asyraf said the government must issue a notice that Parliament can reconvene before the end of the emergency on Aug 1, out of respect for the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Malay Rulers.
“Umno Youth is upset with the government’s attitude which tries to make excuses and polemicise the terms ‘as soon as possible’ and ‘immediately’, as it disrespects the orders of His Majesty and the Malay Rulers,” he said.
He added that the Agong and his fellow rulers had already given clear indications that the next parliamentary session must take place in the near future.
“Failure to follow the orders of His Majesty and the Rulers can be considered a form of rebellion.”
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah previously said he wanted Parliament to reconvene as soon as possible for MPs to discuss Covid-19 issues, including the emergency ordinance and Putrajaya’s National Recovery Plan 2021.
The Malay Rulers had also issued a joint statement, saying there was no need for the emergency to be extended beyond Aug 1 and that state assemblies must also reconvene soon. - FMT
