Wan Fayhsal Claims To Be First One Tapped To Transfer Support To Govt

Bersatu Youth leader Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal has claimed to be the first PN MP contacted to transfer support to the administration of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
He alleged that there are parties other than ‘Datuk Botak’ who offer allocations to opposition parliamentarians willing to express their support for Anwar.
“I was the first person contacted (to transfer support), but I was not threatened.
“Just like Gua Musang (Mohd Azizi Abu Naim), I was offered... of course, ‘the biggest catch’ is the allocation, that's basic, everyone needs (allocation) and he used that to ‘lure’ my support for PMX,” Wan Fayhsal said.
He said this during a press conference at the 5th Annual General Meeting of Wings of Srikandi, Armada, Young Srikandi and Bersetutu Bersatu at IDCC Ideal Convention Centre Shah Alam, Shah Alam today.
The Machang MP said he is confident that there are no more opposition MPs who will follow in the footsteps of the four rogue Bersatu MPs who declared their support for the government.
“But in one’s heart, who knows... that's why we are here for three days, to remind our members, especially the people's representatives, that you won that (election), because of the members’ hard work,” Wan Fayshal said.
However, he does not rule out that the possibility of threats and temptations is always there.
‘Infuse vernacular schools with local elements’
On another matter, he spoke on the status of Chinese and Tamil national type schools (SJK) that were given permission to operate legally after a three-judge session of the Court of Appeal.
The session was chaired by Judge Supang Lian this morning, who unanimously rejected the appeal filed by the Malaysian Islamic Education Development Council (Mappim) and three other NGOs.
Wan Fayhsal said the matter had not yet been discussed by his party and hoped there would be further discussion on how to ensure these schools could continue to operate.
“All arguments laid out at the Court of Appeal must be respected but I hope there will be further discussions on how to ensure that the remaining vernacular schools can continue to exist provided they strengthen their relevance in the national unity agenda.
“My personal view as the youth chief is that vernacular schools must be infused with more local elements such as the teaching of Malay language in schools and Malaysian history, rather than teaching imported syllabus that is alien to Malaysian students,” Wan Fayhsal said.
“Some vernacular schools teach syllabus imported from China and Taiwan which has no relevance to the nation building in Malaysia. These are the questions which the NGOs who challenged the constitutionality of vernacular schools have put forward.
“If the vernacular school proponents can meet these requests by us, we can agree to their continued operations,” he said.
