Bukit Gantang Mp Ready To Support Govt For Rm30m Allocation
PARLIAMENT | Another opposition MP has expressed his readiness to support the Anwar Ibrahim-led Madani government if Putrajaya can allocate enough funding for his constituency.
Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Perikatan Nasional-Bukit Gantang) told the Dewan Rakyat this evening that he hoped to get some RM30 million for the constituency in Perak under Budget 2024.
The amount was based on a series of projects and initiatives planned for Bukit Gantang, including a proposal to upgrade a Pusat Giat Mara, repair 35 Tabika Kemas, and installation of street lights in villages there, among others.
“I am sincerely conveying the voices of Bukit Gantang voters and residents to the rural and regional development minister (Ahmad Zahid Hamidi).
“We are hoping that the government can approve allocations needed for these initiatives as I want to see how far the Madani government today is being fair in distributing its allocations.
“And in this august house I want to say that, should I manage to get the allocation requested for the development of my constituency, I will give my support to the prime minister and the Madani government,” he said.
Across the divide
Syed Abu Hussin made the overture when he was debating the Budget 2024 Bill at the committee stage for the Rural and Regional Development Ministry.
His remark seemed to have caught MPs from across the divide by surprise as only a handful of government MPs applauded Syed Abu Hussin, while Sabri Azit (PN-Jerai) who sat behind him appeared to be in disbelief.
To date, a total of four Bersatu MPs have shifted their support to Anwar's leadership.
They are Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), and Zahari Kechik (Jeli).
Following this, PN chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin claimed that there have been concerted efforts to weaken Bersatu and PN by bribing and threatening their lawmakers.
The party supreme council has also called for an emergency meeting tonight to discuss the spate of 'defections'. - Mkini
