Umno S Relationship With Pas Is No Longer Fruitful Says Ahmad Maslan
(The Star) – Muafakat Nasional is not dead but is no longer “fruitful”, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan in describing the relationship between Umno and PAS.
The Umno secretary-general said that the conflict between both parties started during the Melaka and Johor state elections as the latter opted to be with Perikatan Nasional.
“Muafakat Nasional is not dead but is no longer fruitful (subur).
“This is because during the Melaka and Johor elections, they (PAS) chose to be with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and contested under Perikatan despite us (Barisan Nasional) offering them to work together.
“Umno has decided in its general assembly that it will work solo with Barisan for the next general election,” he told reporters when met at his Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house here in Benut, Pontian.
He was responding to questions on whether Umno would consider working together with PAS in the next general election.
“At the moment, the Umno supreme council has yet to discuss the possibility of working with PAS again,” he said when asked if there are efforts to patch up the relationship.
On another matter, Ahmad Mazlan said that Umno would have an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) next Saturday (May 14) to amend the party’s constitution concerning the time period for party election.
“It will be a three-in-one event where we will have the EGM to amend the party’s constitution, and celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Umno’s anniversary.
“It has been decided during the Umno general assembly that an amendment would be made to the party’s constitution for the party to have its election within six months after a general election,” he said.
